Original Event From: 03/25/2020 11:26 AM
Resolution:
The root cause of this issue has been determined: our Core Services Resolvers in AWS were still configured to use an obsolete ISC Dynamic Lookaside Validation service, and a DNSSEC signature associated with that service expired this morning. The problem was resolved by disabling DLV configuration. Our main campus DNS servers were never configured to use DLV, and did not experience any impact.
Title:
DNS resolution impacted in some AWS Enterprise VPCs
Summary of Work:
At around 11:05am, both Core Services Resolvers began returning "server failure" responses to queries. Tech Services is investigating now.

Impacted Audience:
services running in AWS Enterprise VPCs
Impact of Work:
University AWS accounts with Enterprise VPCs which rely on the Core Services Resolvers (Option 2 or Option 3 in https://answers.uillinois.edu/illinois/page.php?id=74081) may be unable to resolve DNS queries within their VPCs.
